Hydroseeding is not a new technology, but the mechanics and machinery have evolved. We use Turbo Turf hydro- seeders which mix the seed, mulch, fertilizer and tackifier (a natural, biodegradable additive that keeps seed from washing away on slopes). Water jets turn the mixture into a slurry which is then blown through hoses distributing it to the ground. Other machinery mixes the seed with high speed blades similar to a blender. It is then pumped. This method damages a portion of the seed leading to less germination. The turbo mixing method does not damage seed and ensures a consistent mix as it continues blending while the slurry is being sprayed. The result is an evenly mulched, fertilized, thick lawn with no bare spots.

Our seed mixture is 99.9 percent weed free and because the weed free mulch, and fertilizer is mixed in the slurry, weed generation from using straw as mulch is avoided.

We received many requests last year for crabgrass/weed treatments on existing lawns. After researching the traditionally available products and confirming their level of toxicity we made a decision not to spray any of them. We live in one of the last areas of the USA that still has clean water.

My son Ben, and I have both traveled extensively throughout the states and coming home gave us a new appreciation of where we live.
